2008: Was severely let down by junior prom. Finally got my permit, and can now drive with my parents in the car. Realized that once every year, after my hair gets nice and long, I decide to chop it all off in favor of a shorter haircut that I quickly tire of.
2007: Starting dressing better midway through the year. Got back together with boyfriend. Got addicted to some MMORPGs. Turned 16 and had a water balloon fight at my sweet sixteen. Developed good style towards the latter half of the year.
2006: Had my heart broken in March. Happened over a fight about comparing his friend to a midget from a French movie (I think it was the straw that broke the camel’s back sort of thing). Sucked a lot. Liked a bunch of gross guys rebounding. Was really tan and in shape all summer from swimming daily at my grandparent’s house in California. Got back together with boyfriend in September.
2005: Went to Quebec with my 8th grade French class. Had my hair streaked with really ugly poopy orange, but thought I looked hot. Started high school, had my first kiss
.
2004: Was obsessed with big words. I moved to New Jersey, USA, in the middle of 7th grade, and was angry and emo for quite some time. Had a lot of embarrassing, random crushes.
2001: Woke up early on September 11th to my mom talking frantically with her friend who lived in the States. The World Trade Center had just been attacked, and I watched on the TV. Could kinda comprehend the gravity of what was going on. During morning prayer that morning, we prayed for the victims.
2000: Vaguely understood all the fuss about Y2K. Upgraded to plaid kilts and a peter pan blouse for my uniform, which I thought was really cool.
1998: I wrote in a diary as a seven year old, incorrectly spelling “necklace” as “necklas” and thinking I was all that.
1997: Switched to a little private Catholic school, distinctly remember getting in trouble for headbutting a guy into a power outlet (he cried). Got to wear cute little plaid tunics as my uniform. Princess Diana died, I believe. Raised baby chicks as a class, they all died.
1996: Moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Lived in a little apartment on the ground floor because my mom didn’t want me and my little sister running around and annoying anyone below us. This may have been the year with the huge snow storm. Two feet of snow piled high in our garden. Loads of fun. Started kindergarten in public school, had a crush on a boy named Sam. Also got plenty of splinters from the wood chips on the playground and got stung by a bee that wanted my juice.
1995: Mom threw me a huge party in San Fransisco’s Golden Gate Park. There was a clown on stilts, and over a hundred people. Which is silly, since I was four-years-old and I don’t remember a thing. How did I even know that many people??
1994: Watched The Lion King every day while eating a hard-boiled egg. Built forts out of cushions and put my portable potty in the middle as my thrown. I think it was this year that I got into a fight with a boy at my daycare in the sandbox over my shovel. He hit me with it behind my ear and I had to get stitches.
1993: Little sister Joanne was born. Yay
1991: Was born on July 21st sometime in the late morning in Taipei, Taiwan, which was a Sunday. So I’m bonny and blithe and good and gay, as that old poem goes. My real name (Chih-Hsuan) means jade, so I’m precious and green too. Moved to San Fransisco, California before I turned one.
